Will Goessart - Racer
I started skiing at the age of 8 with the track-3 program. While at track 3 I regularly skied at Craigleith, Alpine, and Osler bluffs.
After skiing in the beginners program at track-3 for 3 years I moved to the advanced program, where I skied at Alpine and Osler Buffs.
After 2 years in the advanced program I joined O.D.A.R.T as a part time racer.
That year I competed in the Ontario provincial championships where I placed 3rd in the GS and 2nd in the Slalom.
Since then I haven't looked back.
In the 2007/2008 season I placed 1st overall in the junior division in slalom and repeated the same performance this past season,
except this time sneaking out a 2nd place finish in the men's standing category in Slalom as well.
As a racer with O.D.A.R.T I have participated in the Canadian national championships for the last 3 years.
The first year I attended was in 2007 at Kimberly, B.C. While there I enjoyed positive results but not totally what I was looking for.
At Sun Peaks ski resort the next year I had average results in the GS, and did not finish my first slalom race and the next race did not get the times I was looking for,
overall a disappointing nationals that year. This disappointment only fuelled my desire to do well the next season, and did it ever.
At the Ontario Provincial Championships as I said earlier, I placed 1st in the junior category in Slalom and also placed 2nd in the men's category that same race,
and 3rd in the junior category in GS. Later that season I was invited to a training camp at Owls Head in Quebec, by the Canadian development team,
where we trained for four days, both in GS and slalom.
The nationals that year were again held in Sun Peaks.
With the previous year's disappointments still quite fresh in my mind, I pulled off two amazing Slalom races on day 3 to finish 3rd in the junior category.
After the nationals I was invited to Whistler with the Canadian development team to train for 2 days and to race in the B.C Provincial Championships, placing 5th in GS.
My future aspirations are without a doubt to make the national team and to compete internationally with some of the skiers I have grown up watching.
With last season's successes still fresh in my head and the determination this year to compete and to succeed at a high level I think I can achieve that goal.
