James Binsfeld – Blind Racer Guide
James Binsfeld has been thrilled to join the
ODART Team this year and even more excited to take home the
provincial championship trophy!
James was born with a
complex cardiac condition and has spent much of his childhood at Sick
Kids and Bloorview/Macmillan hospitals in Toronto. After numerous heart operations and several
strokes James has worked his way out of the wheel chair and back to the
slopes to pursue his passion to ski. With left side hemi paresis and
limited use of his right hand, James flies down the hills without
poles. The slopes provide the one place where James can find a more even
playing field with his three brothers who all share the need for speed.
After the most recent
surgery in 2002, James has been well enough to race and began with his
high school able-bodied team and continued with his Varsity team at
Seneca. The past two years James has been able to compete in Special
Olympics and has remained unbeaten.
James has always
dreamed of competing of competing in Para-Olympics and ODART has provided
a wonderful opportunity to progress and develop with the support and
guidance of the coaches, team mates and competitors. The atmosphere on
the hills is refreshing and inspiring.
