David Hacket, Head Coach & Racer
David
is the veteran on the Ontario Disabled ski team having lost is right leg below
the knee at age 16 started skiing again 2 years later. Dave joined the
Ontario Track 3 Disabled Skiing Program that year at
Georgian Peaks and attended his first of many Canadian Disabled Championship (Mont Tremblant) at age 19.
David
joined the Ontario Disabled Racing Team in 1989 and has never looked back
and the next year won his 1st racing medals ( gold
in slalom/silver in GS) at Wakefield Quebec. Since then has been to the
podium more than 25 times, with 14 at the International level during his 2
years with the Canadian National team!
Since
leaving the National Team in 1999 David re-joined ODART and as Head Coach
still enjoys racing on a part time basis.
David's
other passion (after 17 years) is Martial Arts (Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu) and currently teaches at Ron Day's
Kitchener Kicks Martial Arts Academy. Over the Years David has:
· Won over 100 Martial Arts awards
competing against able bodies
· Captured 3 world amateur disabled
Martial Arts titles
· Been elected to International Martial
Arts Hall of Fame in 1997.
· Represented Canada at Martial Arts Goodwill Games,
Mexico 2001 where he captured 3 medals against 26 other able bodied Black
Belts.
· Started Canadian Disabled Martial Arts
Association in 2001.
When
not competing or teaching sports, David is a:
· Transport driver for Loblaws
Companies Canada.
· Firefighter with
Woolwich Township.
· Team captain of Maryhill BunkerSharks
weekend baseball team (Sunday am World Champions)
· Guitarist for Sammy's Wednesday
Night All Star Jam Band
· Volunteer at St. Boniface School, Maryhill.
